5. Guiseley Vixens v Nottingham Forest

The fifth tie of the FA Women’s Cup first round is another all WPL affair, with Guiseley Vixens of Northern Division One hosting Nottingham Forest of the Northern Division.

The Vixens appear to be bouncing back well after the disappointment of relegation from the Northern Division last season, and now sit three points clear at the top of the league with 8 wins and a draw in the nine games they’ve played so far. Their FA Cup form has been equally as impressive this year, beginning with a 7-2 win over Rotherham United in the third qualifying round, followed by a 7-1 victory over Nettleham.

Forest on the other hand are struggling for form in the first half of their season, having picked up just two wins from the opening ten league games, and are sitting one place off the bottom of the table.

Forest won both league fixtures against Guiseley last season, 2-1 and 3-0, so will fancy their chances of earning a place in the second round draw, however the Vixens are on a strong run of form and are more than capable of pulling off an upset against their higher-level opposition.

My prediction: Another tough one to call. Both teams are more than capable of winning this game. If it wasn’t for the fact there needs to be a winner on the day I’d go for a draw, but seeing as I have to choose one, I’ll go for Guiseley.
