18. Tottenham Hotspur v Leyton Orient

Next up is a London derby between Tottenham Hotspur of the WPL Southern Division and London & South East Regional League high-flyers Leyton Orient.

This is a match-up of two teams in stunning form at the moment. Both clubs are topping their league tables – Orient with a 100% win record, while Spurs have earned eight wins and a draw from their first nine league games. Orient are finding the back of the net with astonishing regularity too, averaging almost six goals a game in the league so far this season and winning their FA Cup third qualifying round match with Ascot United 16-0.

As well as their thumping of Ascot, Orient have beaten Writtle and Cambridge City to reach the first round proper. Tottenham join the competition at this stage, but they have shown good form in the WPL Cup, where they have reached the quarter-finals in an attempt to defend the title they won last season.

In last season’s FA Cup Spurs reached the fourth round, where they suffered an extra time defeat to WSL side Aston Villa. Orient have already beaten last year’s performance in the cup, when they only got as far as the third qualifying round, losing to Great Shelford.

The last meeting of these two clubs was just over a week ago in the Capital Women’s Cup. Orient were the home side on this occasion, but the home field advantage didn’t help as Tottenham ran out 2-0 winners.

My prediction: Leyton Orient have a hugely impressive record this season, but Tottenham are the joint-highest ranked team in the competition at this stage, and their form is excellent. For this reason I’m going for a Spurs win.
