20. Milton Keynes Dons v Hemel Hempstead Town

One of two Greater London Women’s Football League teams left in this year’s FA Women’s Cup, Hemel Hempstead Town, make the short trip up the M1 to face WPL South East Division One side Milton Keynes Dons for first round tie number 20.

The Dons have had a decent first half the season and their six wins from the opening ten league games is enough to see them sitting in third place in the league. Their cup form has been a mixed bag however. The FA Cup has brought strong wins over Actonians and QPR Development, but less impressively they were knocked out of both the WPL Cup and WPL Plate at the first hurdle. Hemel have found the league tough going so far this campaign, winning just two games so far, but they have found remarkable consistency in their FA Cup campaign – all three of their qualifying round games were won by scoring two goals at home against regional league sides!

Hemel have already bettered last season’s FA Cup run, which was ended by Peterborough Northern Star in the fourth qualifying round, while MK Dons have matched last season’s run. They were beaten in the first round by Crystal Palace.

My prediction: I think this one is going to go with form, and MK Dons will be in the draw for the second round. Hemel have beaten teams playing at a higher level than themselves in every round so far, but the Dons have already beaten a Greater London League side (QPR Development) quite convincingly in the fourth qualifying round and I feel that they will be too strong for Hemel.
