SSE Women’s FA Cup preview: Derby County v Nottingham Forest

Tie number ten of the Women’s FA Cup third round is a good old-fashioned East Midlands derby between Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

As well as being local rivals, both teams play their league football in the WPL Northern Division, and as things stand right now, both teams are in the bottom half of the table.

This will be the second meeting of the season between these sides. The last time they met each other, back in August, Derby won 2-0 thanks to second half goals from Samantha Griffiths and Lisa Giampalma. That scoreline seems to be a popular one when these two teams meet, as the 2015/16 season saw both teams earn a 2-0 victory at home when they faced each other in the WPL.

My prediction: Local derbies can be very difficult to predict, as the rivalry can cause the form book to be thrown out the window. These are two evenly matched teams, so it should be a closely-fought battle, but I’m going to pick Derby to win.
