There’s a huge game at the top of the NERWFL Premier Division this weekend as Norton & Stockton Ancients face Barnsley in what could be a title decider between the top two teams in the league. Defeat for the South Yorkshire club would see them eliminated from the title race with two games left to play, so this is a real must-win game for them.
The only other team still in contention for the championship is Wallsend Boys Club who, although being a whopping 18 points off the top of the table, have four games in hand over the leaders, giving them a slight chance of snatching the title on the last day of the season.
- Norton & Stockton Ancients will win the league this Sunday if they beat Barnsley and Wallsend Boys Club fail to record a victory over fourth-placed Castleford White Rose.
- Barnsley will be eliminated from title contention if they lose, no matter what the result of the other game.
- If the top two draw and Wallsend Boys Club lose, they will be out of contention.
Form is on the side of Norton, who beat Barnsley 2-1 when they met in September, while Wallsend and Castleford have yet to meet in the league this season.
Northern and Southern Divisions
In the North, Durham Cestria have already wrapped up the title, and the Southern Division won’t be decided this weekend as neither of the two teams at the top (Farsley Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday) have league fixtures.
